Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Is VisiTrax really free, or is there a catch?
A: No catch. VisiTrax is now fully free to use for all.
Q:  How do I use VisiTrax with my MP3 and other audio files?
A: VisiTrax was designed to interoperate with and complement the Winamp media player (http://www.winamp.com). As a result, VisiTrax can support all audio file formats (MP3, WAV, etc.) supported by Winamp ... as long as you also have Winamp v2.9 or v5.

VisiTrax can catalog each disk-based audio file as its own track, or, if you prefer, you can associate audio files with your existing CD tracks (or LP tracks, ...). VisiTrax directly imports from your active Winamp playlist view, so the process is very quick and easy.

Playing your audio file tracks from VisiTrax is even easier. Just select the tracks you want played, and click the "Play audio file(s)" button to queue them to Winamp. If Winamp isn't already running, it will be started up for you. You can even queue complete volumes or playlists to Winamp with a single click.

For additional details, please see our Help topic entitled "MP3 and Other Audio Files" - or look up "Winamp" or "MP3" in the Help index.

Q:  How can I be sure that I'm using the latest version of VisiTrax?
A: In the VisiTrax program, select Help > About and then compare the version number shown there to that shown on this web site.
Q:  How do I update my copy of VisiTrax to the latest version?
A: To update, simply download the latest version from our web site, and install it by running the setup program (vsxsetup.exe).
Q:  How can I import data from another program into VisiTrax?
A: The easiest approach in most cases is to copy data from a spreadsheet program. An alternative method is to convert the data to a special text format, which then can be read directly into VisiTrax. Either approach supports merging with existing VisiTrax data.

For additional details, see our Help topic entitled "Exporting and Importing Data".

With respect to data format conversion, in most cases nothing more is needed than a good text editor and a spreadsheet program. If you need assistance in this regard, please contact us at .

Q:  How can I export VisiTrax data to another program?
A: Two methods can be used:

1) Select Save As from the File menu, and save the data as a text file (using a .txt extension). This exports the entire data set in a relational format that can then be processed with a custom program, or with a text editor.

2) Select "Copy to Clipboard" from the Tracks view, then paste the clipboard data into another program (e.g. a text editor or spreadsheet). You can do this from other views as well, although only the Tracks view contains everything.

For additional details, see our Help topic entitled "Exporting and Importing Data".

Q:  How do I export my track listings to DJ Intelligence?
A: DJ Intelligence (http://www.djintelligence.com) is a web-based booking service for DJs. By uploading your track listings to DJ Intelligence, your clients can search your music library right on the web, then build and submit custom request lists for their event.

With VisiTrax, it's very easy to export a tracks listing file that can be uploaded directly to DJ Intelligence; just choose Export Track List from the File menu. For more details, see our Help topic entitled "Exporting Data for Upload".

Q:  How can I print numbered CD spine labels?
A: You can unzip and use this Word file in a pinch. It contains a series of numbered labels, and is easy to adapt to obtain any prefix or range of 1000 you like, using search/replace.
Q:  How can I print CD labels and jewelcase inserts?
A: VisiTrax includes support for SureThing CD Labeler, a very popular product for designing and printing CD labels, jewelcase inserts, and similar items. For details, see our Help topic entitled "Printing CD Labels".
